Robert Fleischmann leads the Carter Lemon Camerons team which advises on personal issues, such as wills, trusts probate and family matters.

He specialises in assisting those going through a breakdown in their family relationships and provides comprehensive advice to clients on their legal rights and obligations in matters including: separation and divorce, prenuptial agreements, children’s cases and maintenance financial provisions and pension sharing.

A career highlight came when Robert appeared on behalf of three clients at the European Commission of Human Rights in Strasbourg, as a result of which the rules relating to the censorship of prisoners’ correspondence was changed and openly published. The main points were:

  • Each of the clients had been prisoners in English jails and had made complaints about the prison authorities withholding their mail.
  • It was suggested by those appearing on behalf of the UK government that these rules were known to prisoners notwithstanding that they were covered by the Official Secrets Act. The Commission found in favour of some of the applicants but particularly one of the applicants who had attempted to write letters complaining about his prison treatment.
  • It was held there had been violation of his right of access to civil courts assured by Article 6 of the Convention of Human Rights.

More recently, Robert has been investigating the ownership of a piece of unregistered land. This has involved examining the history of the locality and tracking down the owners, enabling his client to acquire this land. Robert’s knowledge of this area and expertise in property ownership enabled him to open negotiations with the owner’s surveyors to make the transfer.

Born and raised in London, while studying, and before being admitted as a solicitor in 1971, Robert worked on a stall in Petticoat Lane and then in John Lewis; a time, he says, which gave him a broader education of life.

Robert joined Carter Lemon Camerons in October 2008

Outside the office, Robert enjoys photography, genealogy, dining in good restaurants with family and friends and on occasion- a good malt whiskey.
